Storymoja is a creative powerhouse with work that spans from content creation to exciting projects based on books. We are constantly developing the skills of writers, illustrators, teachers, and editors. Graduates from this training create work on par with the best practitioners of the craft – compelling, age-appropriate, African stories .
Our responsiveness to emerging issues informs our partnerships. In the wake of 2007/8 post election violence in Kenya, our collaboration with the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) yielded ‘Attack of the Shidas’, a story about inter-ethnic conflict and the basis of a series of events for children across the country promoting peaceful coexistence. Partnering with UN Habitat led to ‘In The Land of the Kitchen’, a story that provides a starting point for discussing conflict resolution for young readers.
Storymoja’s fun and exciting offering inspires young people in different ways. Our career resources, Careerpedia, is an experiential careers information and mentorship platform that empowers students, teachers, parents and mentors to plan their future career cycles. Our Life Skills Series uses stories to open conversations with young people about issues they face as they grow up while Storyhippo Club brings books to life through exciting art such as storytelling, arts and crafts, dance and drama therefore entertaining children, creating room for learning, reinforcing important values and sparking curiosity, confidence, creativity and critical thinking.
With two imprints – Storymoja and Storyhippo for children’s titles – our books come in a variety of genres including fantasy, romance and adventure; offering every reader something gripping. We have 300 books to choose from and are constantly adding new titles to our selection.
